Principal’s Newsletter of Prospect Mountain High School

Volume 6, Issue 3                                      J Fitzpatrick, Principal                                      November 1, 2009

Please note: Quarter 1 Report Cards enclosed.

It’s already November and that means we’re 25% through the school year.  In a matter of no time, we’ll be half way through (and I’ll be complaining about there being too much snow on the ground).  Report cards are enclosed in this mailing, so if you have any questions about your child’s grades, please contact his or her respective teacher(s).

October was a busy month for us here at Prospect.  Our junior class completed their NECAP tests; the senior class hosted the annual Halloween dance; and our fall sports teams finished up their regular season schedules.  I am proud to report that three of our varsity teams (boys’ and girls’ soccer and volleyball) made it past the first round of the NHIAA tournament.  In fact, our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams made it to the Final Four, and as of this newsletter, the boys’ are still alive.  PMHS will be recognizing all of our fall athletes at the fall sports banquet on November 12th at 6:00 pm in the auditorium.  Regardless of whether you or your child participated on a fall sports team, feel free to stop by and join us to celebrate the accomplishments of our fall athletes.

On the topic of soccer, our faculty and staff (appropriately named Prospect United) recently issued a challenge to the boys’ and girls’ junior varsity soccer teams.  The big game was played earlier this week and Prospect United won by a score of 3 - 1.  Admittedly, I was stunned that Prospect United won, but even more shocked that none of my staff called in injured the next day.  The event was so much fun that the girls’ volleyball teams issued a challenge as well, so next Tuesday at 3:45pm, the girls’ volleyball teams will play Prospect United in a friendly game of volleyball.  Feel free to stop by and watch and bring a canned good (or two) to donate to the local food banks.

I want to thank those of you that attended our annual Parent Night on October 8th.  We had a wonderful turnout.  We estimated over 240 people attended the event.  It was great to see so many of you here participating in your child’s education.  The staff enjoyed meeting and speaking with you and hope that you felt the same.  If you missed the performances by the choruses and marching band, you missed something great because they were outstanding.  You can check out the video on YouTube by typing in “PMHS Marching Band.”  Make sure to save-the-date for the Winter Concert on December 17th.

Hopefully, you’ve noticed the new bulletin sign located underneath the school sign at the entrance of the building on Route 28.  The sign was put up a few weeks ago and has been a valuable tool in helping us promote events happening here at the school.  If you’ve driven by over the past few days, you’ve seen the advertisement for this weekend’s drama production, Lizzie Borden of Fall River.  Please see the write-up below for more details on the play.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 875-8800 or at jfitzpatrick@pmhschool.com.  And, don’t forget to check out the school’s Website at www.pmhschool.com.

Take care and have a safe Thanksgiving break.

Off Site Work Study Feature

Senior Jessica Guptill has been working at the Historical Society in Barnstead this year as a work study student.  Her current project there is indexing a book entitled Randolph Old and New.  The book is a history of the town of Randolph, New Hampshire.  Indexing the book involves looking up all of the people whose names appear in the book to make it easier for people to locate relatives.  Other projects she’s done there include indexing diaries to determine who wrote them and about when they were written and cataloging and labeling photos of veterans and buildings.  Jessica intends to study History after graduating from PMHS so this position is an excellent opportunity for her.  If your child is interested in an off-site work study opportunity please contact the Guidance Office.

Prospect United 3 – PMHS JV Soccer 1

On Tuesday, November 3, 2009, the PMHS JV Soccer team met Prospect United, a team comprised of faculty and staff, on the field of battle.  The price of admission to this event was a canned good for the food bank.  Though the JV team put up a valiant effort, the athletic abilities of Prospect United proved to be overpowering.
