Principal’s Newsletter of Prospect Mountain High School

Volume 6, Issue 9                                      J Fitzpatrick, Principal                                       May & June, 2010

Please note: Quarter 4 Progress Reports are enclosed.

The typical May newsletter usually arrives within the first week of May and it contains a recap of what happened prior to April vacation and what is coming up for the remainder of the month.  Then in June, the newsletter provides detailed information about end of the year events such as graduation and underclassmen exam schedules.  This year is a little different.  I’m sending the May newsletter later than usual for two reasons.  First, I was waiting to send out with 4th quarter progress reports, which are included in this mailing.  Secondly, I’m providing important end of the year information that I normally put in the June newsletter.  Because we’re getting out of school considerably earlier than we have in years past, I feel it’s important to get you this information now so that you can start planning accordingly.

To start off the end of the year festivities, the underclassmen semi-formal will be held at the Wolfeboro Inn from 6:00pm to 10:00pm this coming Saturday, May 15th.  The junior-senior prom will be held the following Saturday (the 22nd) from 6:00pm to 11:00pm at Pheasant Ridge in Gilford.  The Senior Promenade, which is open to the public, will be held at 5:00pm in the PMHS cafeteria.  Please join the seniors and their guests as they display their gowns and tuxedos and pose for pre-prom pictures.  (Say that three times fast.)  It is a wonderful opportunity to see all the prom attendees prior to them leaving for Pheasant Ridge.

It’s hard to believe, but when we return from prom, there are only twelve days left of school for underclassmen.  Seniors, on the other hand, have only six days before senior exams begin.  To those of you with graduating seniors, you will be receiving a separate letter outlining significant end of the year events, dates, and times.

On Tuesday, May 25th, PMHS will be hosting its spring academic night at 6:00pm to 7:30pm.  This is an opportunity for you to stop in and chat with your child’s teachers, see some of the work that has been produced, and ask any questions you may have about this school year or future years.  In addition to inviting you, I’m extending the invitation to upcoming 8th graders and their parents to join us to learn more about the teachers and courses and what to expect next year.

The chart below outlines the underclassmen exam schedule.  Given the fact that we only had one snow day this year, the end of school was only pushed back one day.  The official last day of school for students is Tuesday, June 15th.  Please make sure your child has returned all of his or her books and other school property to the proper person(s) and that his or her personal property is removed from his or her locker.

The final exam schedule will be consistent with mid-term exams as will the rules and regulations as described below.

  • Students do not have to come to school if they do not have a scheduled exam.
  • With written (not verbal) permission from a parent/guardian, students may leave school after he or she has completed his or her exams.  This does not include leaving the classroom before the end of the allotted exam time.  This only applies to those students who do not have a second session exam.
  • If your child arrives late (unexcused) to his or her exam, he/she will not be allowed in the room and will have to take the exam during the designated make-up time on the last day of school (Tuesday the 15th).  He or she will be penalized ten points as result of the unexcused tardy.
  • If a student misses the exam with an unexcused absence, he or she will not be allowed to make up the exam, thus receiving a zero and not getting credit for the course.
  • If a student misses the exam with an excused absence or part of the exam with an excused tardy, he or she will be allowed to make up the exam at the earliest convenience of the teacher.
  • If a student leaves the exam room during exam time and does not return, he or she will be given a zero for the exam.
  • The cafeteria and library will be available for students to study during his or her non-exam times.  Non testing students must report to one of those two designated areas.
  • Lunch will be served as indicated on the schedule.
  • We will be serving lunch as indicated on the schedule.
  • The morning buses will run on a normal day schedule Friday through Tuesday.
  • Morning buses will run on a normal day schedule Wednesday through Friday.  Make note of the afternoon bus times.
  • Any type of electronic devices will not be allowed during exam times, i.e., iPods, cell phone, hand held games, etc.
  • Students may, at the teacher’s discretion, listen to iPods once they have finished the exam.
  • Any student removed from class for disciplinary reasons will receive a zero on the exam.
