Please note: Quarter 3 Report Cards are enclosed. Attention parents of seniors: A letter containing information about upcoming senior events is also enclosed.

A graduation date has been set! At this point I can’t tell you if it will take place indoors or out but I can tell you that it will take place on Friday, June 11th. A follow-up letter will be sent next month outlining specific graduation-related details.

The annual Spring Concert is scheduled for next Thursday, April 15th at 6:30pm. Over the past few years, we’ve combined Academic Night with the spring concert; however this year we’re taking a different approach. Next Thursday will consist of the spring concert only. The Academic Night portion of the evening will take place at a date yet to be determined.

Student and Staff Recognition:

The musical Godspell, directed by drama director, Jamie Bolduc, was a smash hit! The performance shattered previous attendance records and made more money than any PMHS drama production.  The cast led by Chris Sliva (’12) and Lucas Troy (’10) did an amazing job as did the crew and live pit band.  Hundreds of hours of rehearsal beyond the school day were put into this performance and it paid off.  The live pit band featured: guidance counselors Justin Carloni on lead guitar and Cathy Bond on piano; French teacher Peter Long on back up guitar; math teacher Chris MacStravic on bass; junior Spencer Goosens (’11) and senior Riley O’Loughlin (’10) on percussion; and senior Samantha Warren (’10) on the flute.

Samantha Warren (’10) and Catherine Martinez (’10) recently participated at the New Hampshire All State Music Festival.  They represented PMHS in the both the Mixed and Women’s Choirs.

On March 12, the National Honor Society hosted the school’s first Mr. Prospect Mountain Pageant. Eight students including Nick Harbaugh (’10), Isaac Fithian, Nick Myles (’10), Ryan Kelley (’10), Jedidiah Young (‘11), Albert Whorf (’11), Chris Sliva (’12), and Joe Tasker (’12), all competed for the coveted Mr. PMHS title.  The show, which opened with a choreographed song-and-dance routine, included an individual formal wear portion, a question-and-answer session, and a talent segment. The runner-up title went to Nick Myles, and the 2010 Mr. PMHS crown went to sophomore Chris Sliva.

The Mrs. PMHS competition took place on Friday, April 2nd. Participants included Dagny Brown (’13), Tiffany Champagne (’13), Aly St. Laurent (’13), Anna Jortikka (’13), Jennifer Crawley (’12), Breanna Parandes (’11), Kristine Adams (’12), Brittini Herrick (’11), and Jessica Guptill (’10). Kristine Adams placed third, Brittini Herrick was runner-up, and senior Jessica Guptill joins current Mr. PMHS Chris Sliva as the Mrs. PMHS winner of 2010!

Mr. and Mrs. Prospect Mountain was organized by senior Melissa Fortin (’10).  The events brought in over $1600.00, which is being donated to David’s House and the Make-A-Wish foundation.  Melissa was also responsible for working with the Red Cross to host a blood drive at PMHS a few weeks ago.  Over 60 people donated blood throughout the day.  Melissa has done an amazing job demonstrating great leadership and providing positive opportunities for the members of the PMHS learning community.

Junior Mike Mahanes (’11) recently competed at the New Hampshire Career Development Conference as part of his DECA vocational marketing program.  He competed against 180 students from throughout the state and came in 2nd overall in the retail merchandising category.  Earning 2nd place qualified him for the international competition being held in Louisville, Kentucky, at the end of April, which Mike will be attending.  Congratulations to him on a job well done.

Seniors Tyler Adabahr (’10) and Brad Olmstead (’10) recently attended the New Hampshire Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Leadership Conference.  Brad came in 3rd place in the Personal Finance Competition and won a $1000 scholarship to Southern New Hampshire University and qualified to go to the national conference being held in July.  The PMHS chapter of FBLA was also recognized for making the largest charitable donation (in the State) to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  FBLA members include:  Brad Olmsted (’10), Tyler Adabahr (’10), Katelynn O’Toole (’10), Isaac Fithian, Cody Bousquet (’11), and Kayla Carr (’10). Congratulations to Brad and the FBLA.

Senior Nick Bugieda (’10) recently received three Gold Keys in drawing as well as one Honorable Mention, one Silver Key in Digital Art, and one Gold Key for his portfolio from the Scholastic Art Awards of New Hampshire Program. Keys are given to students who have demonstrated not only artistic ability but vision and expression.  Nick’s portfolio was also selected to compete at the national level where he won a national level Silver Key.  He is the first student in PMHS history to achieve this and was the only student in the State (this year) to be selected to go to the national competition.  Nick and art teacher, Jesse Robidas, will be traveling to Carnegie Hall in New York City in mid-June to accept his award.  Other students earning keys include: freshman Harvey Beck (’13) won a Silver Key in ceramics and glass; junior Derek Nerdahl (’11) won a Gold key in drawing; senior Kaitlyn Fasulo (’10) won a Gold key in drawing; sophomore Erin Munroe (’12) received an Honorable Mention in ceramics & glass; and sophomore Lauren Stearns (’12) received an Honorable Mention in ceramics & glass.

Sophomore Tyler Sullivan (’11) recently put his Health class skills to the test when he performed the Heimlich maneuver on a fellow classmate who was choking on a piece of candy during class.  Tyler, recognizing the need to provide help, stood behind his friend and performed the Heimlich as he was taught by Health teacher Mark Anthony earlier this year.  WMUR News learned of this story and came out to the school to interview both boys and aired the story on the 6:00pm edition of News 9 on April 8th.

And lastly, guidance counselor Cathy Bond was recently named New Hampshire High School Counselor of the Year.  On Monday, April 5th, representatives from the NH High School Guidance Counselor Association presented her with a plaque and flowers in front of the entire student body in a special award ceremony.  Cathy is an invaluable member to our staff and student body and is most deserving of this prestigious award.  Congratulations Cathy.

Zach Rosado (’11) has been attending a Work Study at The Golden Paw, a kennel/day care for dogs in Chichester since January. He goes two days a week. His duties are to exercise the dogs, give them water, brush them, and vacuum for the owner, Tina Drew. The dogs LOVE it when they see Zach!

Item of Note

Mr. Gammons, Missy Gammons’ dad, visited Mrs. DeNitto’s Junior English class last month. He gave a presentation regarding his tour of duty during the Vietnam War. It was fascinating and really valuable for the students to hear what being in the military during the war was like. He brought in a newspaper clipping from when he was shot during one fight. A jar of peanut butter in his backpack is where the bullet lodged, saving his life. Thank you, Mr. Gammons, for sharing your story and helping to put the war into a historical context for students.
