Field Trip to Gettysburg (click on images for larger view)
Mr. Bingham's US History AP class took a field trip to the fields of Gettysburg last November.
The class got a chance to experience history first-hand as the very knowledgeable Bingham took the group not only to the historic landmarks, but on the actual marching routes of various companies for both the Union and the Confederacy. The group got to experience such things as the procedure for firing cannons, eating food that the soldiers ate, marching in formation and gaining an understanding of how devastating a conflict of that nature could be. In period clothing, Bingham spoke about everything from the broad and sweeping implications of the various strategies used by commanding generals to the
lesser-known but equally interesting stories of families split in two by the devastating conflict. Students had a chance to really experience history and get a small taste of what it was actually like during those harrowing years in our nation's history. The group camped out and was regaled by interesting anecdotes by firelight nightly. This overwhelming success of a field trip was not only educational, but without a doubt, a very good time for all.
