The mathematics department is committed to encouraging all students to reach their highest potential in the field of mathematics. We emphasize logical reasoning and ask students to be critical and creative problem solvers. We encourage their creative thought and unique approaches to solving complex mathematical problems. The mathematics department offers courses that will meet the diverse needs of our students. We offer remedial courses for those that struggle and AP AB Calculus for those who strive to work at the collegiate level while enrolled in high school. No matter what level a student is at, they will be given every opportunity to be successful!
I have been teaching mathematics at PMHS for 13 years. Prior to my time here, I spent 9 years at John Stark Regional High School. I currently teach Algebra 1 CP, Pre-Algebra, and Geometry Honors. I am the sophomore class advisor and work with Mrs. O’Loughlin to oversee the Community Service program. I earned my B.S. in Mathematics Education in 1994 and my M.Ed. in 1995, both from UNH. I am a lifelong New Hampshire resident, have been married 22 years, and have two amazing children. I love to scrapbook and travel, but my passion is Disney!
My name is Mr. Farquhar and I teach mathematics here at Prospect Mountain High School. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of New Hampshire. This is my first year teaching a Prospect Mountain and I taught for the previous eight years at Spaulding High School in Rochester, New Hampshire. I teach all three levels of Algebra 1 and I hope to start up a disc golf club sometime this Winter. I love to listen to music (funk/jazz/fusion/rock/whatever sounds good), play music (I play the electric bass, guitar, and a little piano), hike, and play disc golf.
My name is Paul Hitchings and this is my tenth year teaching mathematics at Prospect Mountain High School. I have a Masters degree in mathematics and teach General Algebra, Algebra 2, and Calculus. I am retired and work part time as a math teacher - which I have always enjoyed - this being my 48th year teaching in the classroom. I have taught at Dover High, Prospect Mountain High School, New Hampshire College, SNHU, and Hawthorne College. I am an avid golfer and previously coached the PMHS golf team. I live with my wife, my son and my grandson (half of the year). My grandson is most important to me and I love watching him grow up. My non-physical hobby is reading. I have a reader by my bed, I have a book in my gym bag, and I have an audio-book in my car. I enjoy being a fan of the Boston Sports teams and UNH -my alma mater.
My name is Luke LaFreniere and I have been teaching at Prospect Mountain High School for six years. Although I have taught every class that we offer, my specialty is Algebra. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. I enjoy spending time with my wife and son, playing a variety of recreational sports from Basketball to Slow Pitch Softball. I also enjoy reading Fantasy fiction novels and playing video games.
My name is Chris MacStravic and I have been teaching for twenty years, with this year being my tenth at Prospect Mountain High School. I previously worked at Pembroke Academy for ten years. I have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in addition to a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. I currently teach AP Calculus, PreCalculus Honors, Algebra 2 CP, and Senior Math. I am also the advisor for Student Council. I have a deep love of music and can usually be seen at concerts, both big and small, and on stage at the semi-annual Talent Show!
I joined the Prospect Mountain High School faculty in the fall of 2009 after moving to New Hampshire. I previously taught for five years at Stamford High School in Connecticut. I currently teach CP Geometry, General Geometry, and CP Precalculus. I enjoy serving as the advisor for National Honor Society and I am also involved with the drama and music departments here at Prospect. I hold a B.A. in Mathematics and a minor in Music from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. When not at school, I love spending time with my husband, our two dogs, and our cat.
