Please
note: Report cards are enclosed.
We,
as New Englanders, have a lot to be proud of this fall. The Red Sox won the World Series, the
Patriots are dominating the NFL, and all signs point to the Celtics being a
team to cheer for again. We, as members
of the PMHS learning community, have even more reasons to be proud. Our varsity boys’ and girls’ soccer teams
made it to the quarter-finals in the post-season tournament; our boys’ and
girls’ cross-country teams qualified for the Meet of Champions; and our varsity
volleyball team made a tournament appearance with one player making the
All-State team. PMHS had great success
in athletics this fall and we are proud of all our student athletes.
Additionally,
we had several other notable accomplishments that occurred throughout the past
month. Our drama club produced a
successful musical. The Senior Class
hosted a terrific spaghetti dinner and Halloween Dance. On a more personal note, I would like to take
this opportunity to thank all of you who attended our 4th annual
Parent Night. I was told by several
staff members that this year’s Parent Night was the largest turnout PMHS has
ever seen for an open-house type event.
I enjoyed meeting you and appreciate the time you dedicated to meet with
the PMHS staff as well as the time you spent filling out the NEASC survey. (If you have not completed a NEASC survey,
but are interested in doing so, please contact Cathy Fraser at
cfraser@pmhschool.com to arrange for a time to take the survey.)
November
is sure to be a busy month. We’ve
recently finished quarter one and saw the advent of quarter two. Our winter sports programs are getting under
way. We have an array of other events
planned from school-wide assemblies to a dance to a craft fair to a canned-food
drive. Everyday, we are doing our best
to personalize education in order to maximize student learning. And on that note, I recently had the
opportunity to be a guest speaker in several Freshman Seminar classes. I always enjoy this opportunity as it allows
students to learn a little more about me as a person, and, as I explain to
them, “To show you that I am as normal as you are.” One of the messages I convey is to make the
most out of the high school experience by getting involved and participating in
as much as possible. I offer you the
same advice. As a parent, get involved
in as much as you can. Join the PTSA,
join the Booster Club, volunteer to chaperone a field trip or dance; attend a
sporting event or drama production; take advantage of the many opportunities
provided by PMHS to help personalize your child’s education. Remember, the high school experience is not
something solely for your child. You are
as much a part of that experience as they are.
As
always, please feel free to contact me with any comments, concerns, or
questions you may have. I can be reached
at 875-8800 or jfitzpatrick@pmhschool.com. Also, please check out the school’s Website
at www.pmhschool.com as it has been
slightly modified to be more user friendly.

Emily’s second. Her dance team performed
at the parade a few years ago as well.

weekend. It was a tremendous success!
Winter

The
Winter Concert will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2007, at 6:30 pm in the

Friends
of the Performing Arts (FOPA)
FOPA
was started at PMHS last year to help raise funds for the students who perform
in the band, chorus and drama club.
There are many events that our students are invited to and without funds
they cannot go. That’s where FOPA steps
in. Fund raising is the only way for
students to get to such events.
We
need your help. Please come and see what
FOPA is all about and maybe you’ll want to help as much as we do. Membership dues are $5.00 which goes toward
the scholarship fund that is given to two graduating seniors that will continue
their higher education in a Performing Arts Program. All are welcome – Moms, Dads, Grandparents
and friends of our performing arts students.
Our next meeting will be November 15th at 5:00 pm in the band
room.
FOPA
will be at the Craft Fair on Saturday, November 17, from 10:00 – 3:00, selling
baked goods and some hand crafted items.
Band T-shirts and Band Aid cards will also be for sale. Our 50/50 raffle during the play “School
House Rock Live,” was won by SAU Business Manager Kathy O’Blenes, and the
prize was $40.00 – WHOA!
The
PMHS World Language Club is hosting its Second Annual Holiday Craft Fair on
Saturday, November 17, 2007 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm in the PMHS Gymnasium. Free gift-wrapping and babysitting will be
available. Proceeds benefit students
traveling abroad in 2008.
Tables
are still available. For more
information on renting a table, please contact Sheila Croft at 875-3800 ext.
2215 or email scroft@pmhschool.com.

The Alton Explorers are having a recruitment meeting on Wednesday,
November 14, 2007, from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Alton Fire Department on Route
