Principal’s Newsletter of Prospect Mountain High School

Volume 4, Issue 10                             J Fitzpatrick, Principal                                                        May 1, 2008

Please note:  4thd Quarter Progress Reports will be issued on May 16, 2008.

The end of the school year is right around the corner.  With the advent of nice weather, we’re all anxious to be outside enjoying it.  However, as I’ve been telling our seniors, we must hold off senioritis for as long as possible.

There’s been a lot going on over the past few weeks and as usual, there’s a lot coming up.  This past weekend, the senior class hosted the Junior-Senior Prom at The Oaks Country Club in Somersworth.  The evening began at PMHS as the seniors and their guests participated in the Grande March.  The stairwell from the second floor to the cafeteria was decorated with white lights, streamers, silver balloons as well as a white arch, which made for a wonderful setting for seniors to show off their gowns and tuxedos and pose for pictures.  The prom itself was a lot of fun.  There was a fireworks display (literally fireworks outside) and a lot of dancing.  Kevin Lee and Deanna Clevesy were voted prom king and queen.  The other members of prom court included: Cam Drouin, John Jannini, Ryan Gillan, Amor Pagan, Amanda Pellowe, and Kelsie Whitney.  It was a wonderful evening as everyone who participated looked great and was on their best behavior.  In fact, the staff at The Oaks commended our students on their positive attitudes and behavior.  It was a very nice compliment to receive on their behalf.

I did mention in the April newsletter that I would have a finalized graduation date for you.  That date is Friday, June 13th at 6:00pm.  We are preparing for two venues depending on weather: option one being outside on the soccer field; option two being inside the auditorium.  For those of you that are parents/guardians of seniors, I will be sending you a letter later this month outlining important dates and times regarding senior exams, rehearsals, awards night, graduation, etc.  If before then you have any immediate concerns or questions, please contact me at the number/email below.

I also want to thank those of you that attended the Spring Concert/Academic Night on April 10, 2008.  As usual, the concert band and choruses put on wonderful performances under the direction of Tom Stevens and Jamie Bolduc.  There was a great turnout and the staff really enjoyed interacting with you and the students.  I hope you enjoyed the experience as much as we did, and we look forward to next year’s event.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I can be reached at 875-8800 or at jfitzpatrick@pmhschool.com.  Don’t forget to check out the school’s Website at www.pmhschool.com for other important dates and notices.

John Jannini, Cam Drouin, Kevin Lee, Ryan Gillan, Amor Pagan, Deanna Clevesy, Kelsie Whitney, and Amanda Pellowe make up the

Prom Court.

Student Work Study Program

John Hammond and Shabir Shaikh have been fortune to have the opportunity to work with Mr. Rueben Wentworth at Alton Home and Lumber this year.  Mr. Wentworth and his staff have taught the boys how the hardware business runs including pricing, stocking, sweeping, measuring wood, and a wide range of other tasks.  John and Shabir have begun building a wall for a flower garden in front of the hardware store.  The support and guidance they have received from Mr. Wentworth and his staff have made this work study a very positive experience for them.

Sophomore Advisory Project

Mrs. Sanville’s sophomore advisory group went to the Humane Society on April 30, 2008 to visit with the animals and present a donation of $100.00 to the organization.  Sophomores in this group had fundraisers and collected food for the animals in the shelter.  During their tour of the shelter, Ms. Marylee Gorham, the director, explained the origins of the organization and how it functions, saying that no animals are euthanized and that their adoption rate is 90%.  Students had an opportunity to meet some of the animals, take pictures and ask questions.  A good time was had by all.

Ms. Gorham receives a check from Zack Rosado and Lilia Pagan.
