Principal’s Newsletter of Prospect Mountain High School

Volume 4, Issue 6                               J Fitzpatrick, Principal                                               February 1, 2008

Please note: 2nd Quarter report cards are included with this newsletter.

Beginning next week, if your child will be absent from school, please contact Kathy Bourdeau in the main office at 875-3800 ext. 3148.  Thank you for your cooperation.

We’ve officially made it half way through the school year!  Our students finished up mid-year exams last week and I am happy to report that the change in the exam schedule worked very well for students and faculty.  We received many compliments from students and faculty alike and I would like to thank you for your support in making sure that your child followed the necessary procedures.

Now that February is upon us, so is the start of the second semester.  Most students have entirely new courses with entirely new teachers.  I like to think of second semester as a fresh new start.  Of course, the month of February is shortened due to February vacation, which takes place from the 25th to the 29th; however, even though it is shortened, there is still plenty to accomplish.  For instance, we begin the scheduling process for next year.  The week before vacation, we will host our annual Arena Scheduling event where students choose their potential courses for the 2008-09 school year.  We feel this is an essential component to promote personalization as it allows students to play an active role in deciding which courses to take.  Within the next week or so, all students will receive a Program of Studies, which will outline available courses for next year. I recommend sitting down with your child and having a conversation about courses he or she may be interested in pursuing.  If you have any questions about scheduling and/or courses, please do not hesitate to call me or the guidance office.

On the topic of February vacation, our Student Council is once again preparing for part two of Winter Carnival.  As I described back in the December newsletter, Winter Carnival is an all-day, school-wide event that provides an opportunity for our students to meet the civic and social expectations for student learning as it relates to our Mission.  It is important to PMHS to have as many students involved in this event as possible; therefore, all students are required to attend school that day as any other.  If you choose to dismiss your child before the end of school on that day, he or she will need to present a signed note from you to the Main Office before the school day begins.

I hope the month of January treated you well and that you receive as much candy and flowers as you hope for Valentine’s Day.  As always, please feel free to contact me with any comments, concerns, or questions you may have.  I can be reached at 875-8800 or at jfitzpatrick@pmhschool.com.  Don’t forget to check out the school’s Website at www.pmhschool.com.
